Is this a Nigerian song? Yes! And it is a superb one. I have been hearing this song playing lately on the radio and I have been wondering who sang it or what the title was. The only thing I knew was the chorus - Oh baby, My baby and it is a new 2011 song by our home girl Jodie and the song is titled Kuchi Kuchi(Oh Baby). She is probably a new kid on the block and she is already hitting the Nigerian world with her style of music. Her full names area Joy Odiete Eseoghene and she was born to an Esan mother and an Urhobo father, who are religious. She grew up in Lagos and sang in the choir. This song is different. It looks a little bit like a calypso song, a song good for the beach, party or if you are taking a road trip.
Oh baby is a smooth song that would make you want to dance and it is easy going. It is not like every other Nigerian song and I'm wondering where did this babe learn how to sing like this?
What is the history behind Jodie?
This music video is said to have been shot in Lagos Nigeria and I'm guessing you might recognize some spots.
For those who think she looks familiar, well Jodie ws a contestant at the 2007 West African Idols together with Omawunmi and Timi Dakolo although Timi was the final winner. Well what can I say other than it is a sweet song, great video and talented upcoming artiste.
Well here are the lyrics below:
When I wake up, wake up in the morning
I see your lovely face
Your cheeks like butter, honey
From Attica
You take my breath away
Your pretty, little fingers, so tender
Like petals from the morning bloom
Your laughter, a joy to remember
Heaven has blessed me with you
The very day you came to me
My whole life became brand new eh eh
Because of you eh eh eh
Oh baby, oh baby,
I see me in your eyes
Oh baby, oh baby,
I see love in your smile
You tell me kuchi kuchi ahhh
I understand
You tell me kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, my baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, pretty baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
In the middle of the night
I wake up
When I hear your cry
It seems something binds us together
Supernatural
I can hardly live a moment without you eh eh
Because of you eh eh eh
Oh baby, oh baby,
I see me in your eyes
Oh baby, oh baby,
I see love in your smile
You tell me kuchi kuchi ahhh
I understand
You tell me kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, my baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh, my baby, pretty baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
You make me cry
Laughter is not enough
I've seen true beauty
Because I see you
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, my baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh, my baby, pretty baby
Kuchi kuchi ahhh
Oh baby, oh baby, oh baby
When I wake up, wake up in the morning
I see your lovely face

Now I don't really get what Kuchi Kuchi really means. It probably means.

kuchi kuchi is an impression of expressing love to a baby such as you tickling your baby and saying 'kuchi kuchi kooo' if you get me?

This song haunts me even in my sleep! Damn its a fresh nu truly naija song that reminds me of my yesteryears with Christy Essien Igbokwe, Funmi Davies, Rosemary Ogunro and the likes. Makes me very reminiscent of the good old lazy days. Very impressive and totally refreshing. Kuchi kuchi is the popular baby babble we hear parents tattle to their babies. Jodie, please keep up the brilliant work - your single hit makes more sense to me than an album of garbage.

One spectacular thing about Jodie's Kuchi Kuchi is that it has deeper interpretation. She has been able to interprete the baby's world as well as a mother's affection. Just like the biblical fact that states that" can a mother forsake her suckling chld".This gifted singer has align herself with the biblical mother- child relationship. Kudos to our new lady of decent songs. Besides a couple of Nigerians felt Jodie is singing about "a guy and a babe relationship".No she is simply evading the child's world. Excellent music- no form of nakedness, no seductive scences, no barbaric and decayed lyrics. She has been able to restore dignity and faith to good music and decency in the world of art.JODIE YOU WILL GO PLACES BUT THE BIG QUESTION GOES THUS: JODIE AND ALL the FANS, ARE YOU GUYS BORN AGAIN? PLEASE DO THAT NOW

I've been listening to this fantastic song on the airwaves. But the lyrics and the worth of the song hit me real good during the MTN project fame that just ended and in which one of the contestants, Yvonne, I guess, sang it and each time I listen to it, I get goose pimples all over me.it's so well arranged, excellent, romantic lyrics-to think a Nigerian sang it-unbelievable. I went on the internet and discovered gold-she was even a contestant in the west African Idol won by Timi. I discovered GOLD-Joy Odiete Eseoghene. On my phones this song is a must early in the morning and last thing in the night. JODIE girl, thanks for this song that is bound to break all records and win all awards. It is one reasonable song amongst several rubbish songs-refreshingly different Thanks to MTN too for years of polishing raw talents-this is a befitting testimonial to the good work !

What a song, a lullaby, that is metaphorised with fealings that express the joy of motherhood. A song i can sing to the one i love for in this song the through fealings of love is embended. Thank u judie, its a great work of literature, u av achieved. This song is my number one for now and for children also; i mean babies also like the song. My causen's baby(8months child) is a testimony. Any time she cries we play her the song and she will stey calm and listing. Atimes she will dose off. Thank u for briging back our old traditional lullaby in a way that suit the contemporaly age. U and asha are the only musician we have in Nigeria for now. Thank u. Great work; kuchi kuchi my jodie.

baby you are really good.
Never really listened attentively to nigerian music for a very long time now.
Fact is I got addicted to your music without knowing it was a song by a nigerian.
By the way whats that about you been in west african idols, dear? Am sure every one has realised that we all voted wrongly.
Yes typical of all nigerians we vote based on tribalism and spur of the moment.
Tell me, where is Timi Dakolo. We were beginning to think that Omawunmi deserve it more.
And then here you come " like bolt from the blue" "New regal J'odie"
Yes, now we know we all got it wrong (the judges included).
Guys pls turn back the hands of time so that we can crown the winner of west african idol 2007.
Hey Jodie, kuchi4me, cos I luv U

What a song...with flavour for all times. Each time i hear this song, i am transported beyond masef right into the invisible vibrations of joy, peace, happiness and wonder. Its a great creative piece of art work from seemingly such an innocent voice of one crying for attention. Crying for love. Flesh and blood wouldnt have revealed this song to Jodie. Continue to tap from the depths of soul ma gurl. You will surely go places. Kudos and goodluck.

I heard dis song an it was like "Wow, no other song would be played at home except Kuchi Kuchi" All the neighbours caught the wonderful "Kuchi Kuchi flu". The song is an "everybody" song, right from my Mum to my younger brother of seven. This is a great song, the best of its kind... Its just what it is, the lyrics are so touching, that it brought tears to my eyes eventhough I dont have a child yet, and it still brings me close to tears... I would say I'm happy you wrote this song, its a blessing to me and everyone around me.

You are a true genius, and I think you really sat down on a seat to compose the great lyrics of this song, in this our era when music is loosing it's meaning and respect, and when anyone comes out and calls him or herself a 'musician'. Thanx for calming my search in looking for the best "child emotional" music ever to be produced by a Nigerian. "Good people, Great Nation". Keep it up!Re: Kuchi Kuchi (Oh Baby) by Jodie
